Master of Engineering and Master of Science Program in Computer Engineering (International Program)
Objectives
The master’s program has five primary objectives:
-
To produce excellent scholars that can acquire knowledge by themselves in state-of-the-art areas of computer engineering and computer science, particularly in the areas of data analytics, data scientists, data engineers, AI, and machine learning which are in demand in industrial sectors and job markets.
-
To develop scholars with the ability to do research. The scholars must be able to publish findings or knowledge
-
To develop scholars with the ability to analyze and solve problems. The scholar should be able to present a solution effectively.
-
To develop scholars with awareness of ethical issues and without any ethical problem.
-
To produce scholars with effective communication skills in English.
Program Learning Outcomes
The success of the program is evaluated from the program learning outcomes. According to the national development plan number 13, Thailand needs workers with computer and technology skills who can develop services, systems, and new knowledge. The PLOs are designed so that students can acquire new knowledge in PLO1 and conduct research in PLO2. Additionally, communication skills and moral ground are also needed as a part of the desirable characteristics of KMUTT students which are delivered in PLO3 and PLO4, respectively. At the end of the program, graduates should be able to:
1 Can apply computer engineering knowledge to solve a problem
This PLO focuses on developing knowledge and skills of students. Students will also be trained to gain new knowledge on their own. Moreover, the students will be able to analyze strength/weakness of the knowledge. Then students should be able to make a good decision to apply suitable knowledge to solve a problem in project-based classes. The level of the learning outcome can be described as: first-level beginner (B), where students can acquire new knowledge through various sources including lectures, tutorials, online media, etc. The second level is intermediate (I) where students can analyze problems, suggest technology/methodology, and design a solution to the problem. The expert students (E) will also be able to develop/implement the solution that they suggested also. The student who would pass the PLO should be at least the second level which is an ability to analyze and produce a solution to a problem. With this PLO, students should be equipped with the skill to develop and implement digital services much needed for Thailand.
2 Understand a new problem in the area of computer engineering and carry out a research project
This PLO focuses on the ability to develop new knowledge which is the mission of KMUTT and the direction of Thailand’s development. It is also satisfied with the feedback of students who need to deepen their knowledge in the field. The new knowledge can be in two forms which are new solution or new knowledge in research. The students should be able to conduct a research by applying a suitable research methodology.
2.1 can find a topic and formulate a research problem
2.2 can create and defend a research proposal
2.3 can experiment, collect data, and analyze the result of a research
3 Can communicate computer engineering knowledge/solution with others
he students should be able to communicate with others without much difficulty even though the others may not have a background in computer or technology. The skill to create media/presentation/report to explain the information is important and should be evaluated in most of the classes via class projects in terms of reports, presentations, along with the implementation of the solution. The sub-PLOs include
3.1 can create media such as presentation slides or video presentations to explain the knowledge.
3.2 can explain, discuss, and defend the analysis of a problem, a proposed solution, result of the experiments, and implement a solution or method of work for others.
4 Can collaborate in team, lead team, and demonstrate sense of ethics in workplace
Since Thailand needs to develop its own technology and innovations, this program is aimed to produce students with research skills even though they may not work in academics. Besides the ability in academics, ethical issues are also important aspects of a good researcher and team member. Students should be aware of ethical issues regarding the computer engineering discipline and should be able to conduct research and work ethically in a team. Thus, students can conduct/publish research or implement/report a project with ethical issues.
